The Society for Music Analysis is pleased to announce an online workshop on Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 PM GMT (1:30 PM EST). This workshop will focus on the process of writing and submitting a proposal for the Society for Music Theory’s annual conference, with a particular focus on cross-cultural and disciplinary expectations surrounding music theory. This event also reflects increased collaboration between the SMA and SMT, further cultivating music theory’s international landscape.
It will be run by two veterans of the SMT’s program committee:
- Janet Bourne, Assistant Professor of Music Theory at the University of California, Santa Barbara
- Stephen Rodgers, Professor of Music Theory and Musicianship at the University of Oregon
This event will involve a presentation from the speakers, followed by targeted discussion of specific proposals. If you would like to receive feedback on your (anonymised) proposal, please email a draft to jbourne@music.ucsb.edu and ser@uoregon.edu by January 1. Academics of all stages are welcome to submit their work, with PhD candidates and early career researchers from the UK especially encouraged.
This workshop is a great opportunity to get unique and specialised insights into the SMT proposal process!
