The SMA’S next PGR writing club has been organised for the Saturday 29th February 2020, at Senate House. Dr. Rebecca Day will be chairing the session.
The writing club is an informal meeting open to the SMA’s postgraduate members, in which we share and discuss each another’s writing in a supportive environment. As many of us are working within specialised fields, with highly technical and specialised vocabulary, we hope that you will seize this opportunity to receive feedback on your writing from peers working in similar fields, who are at a similar stage of their professional development.
The event will consist of two sessions (10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00). Approximately four papers will be discussed during the day. We request that you read all of the papers before attending, as we hope to spark lively discussions that will be valuable to all who attend.
We welcome any paper within the broad scope of music analysis. If you wish to offer up your work for discussion, please contact us by emailing students@sma.ac.uk by 22 January 2020, giving details of what you would like to present (i.e. thesis chapter, conference paper, journal submission), a rough idea of the word count (5,000-word maximum), and your submission deadline. We will notify you of acceptance as quickly as possible, and will then ask the chosen papers to be sent to us by 7 February 2020, to be circulated a week before the event to all attendees.
If you’re interested in getting involved, please get in touch at students@sma.ac.uk. There is no charge for attendance and a limited number of bursaries will be available to assist with the cost of attending. The closing date for bursary applications is 29 January 2020.
