The Council of the newly organized (2011) Russian Society for Music Theory is glad to invite you to its first annual meeting that will take place in St. Petersburg from September 30 to October 2, 2013. The meeting will take place at the St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory and the Department of Arts of the St. Petersburg State University, with participation of Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
The conference title is: “Music Theory — Contemporary Multifaceted Field of Knowledge. Innovations and Debatable Issues.”
Suggested areas for discussion:
-contemporary theories of composition
-theory of music in the context of humanities
-theory of music and natural sciences
-theory of music and psychology
-history of music theory and theoretical aspects of music history
-theory of music in the world outside Russia
-current methods in music theory pedagogy
-music theory and performance

The DEADLINE for proposals is May 1, 2013.
The proposal should include:
1) The title and the bullet-point plan of the paper of not more than 1000 characters (as an alternative to bullet-point, you may send the abstract not exceeding 300 words) in MSWord or pdf format. Musical examples and figures, not exceeding 3 pages, if needed, should be submitted in a separate pdf file.
2) In a separate file, the name, position, affiliation, required equipment, email address and phone number of the presenter in MSWord or pdf format.
Each paper will be given a 30 minute slot: 20 minutes for reading and 10 minutes for the discussion.
The Society does not provide travel grants for the presenters. The participation fee is 20 USD. The method of payment will be announced later.
The members of the Russian Society for Music Theory are exempt from paying the fee. Please, contact Dr. Zenkin and Dr. Khannanov on the subject of membership in the RSMT.
Travel information:
For the non-Russian citizens, the Russian visa is required. A tourist visa can be obtained at the nearest Russian Consulate. The current Aeroflot airfare for the dates of the conference from JFK, New York, to Sheremetievo, Moscow, is around 700USD. The travel from Moscow to St. Petersburg (overnight sleeper train) is around 100USD. There is also a bullet train Sapsan (3 hours 50 minutes of travel time). The weather in St. Petersburg in October is similar to that in Boston in December. Four star hotel near Nevsky Prospect is around 90USD per day.
