The Society for Music Analysis’ next PGR writing club has been organised for Wednesday 14th June 2023, to be held online. Dr Genevieve Arkle will be chairing the session.

The writing club is an informal meeting open to the SMA’s postgraduate members, in which we share and discuss each other’s writing in a supportive environment. As many of us are working within specialised fields, with highly technical and specialised vocabulary, we hope that you will seize this opportunity to receive feedback on your writing from peers working in similar fields, who are at a similar stage of their professional development.

The event will consist of two sessions (10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00). Approximately four papers will be discussed during the day. We request that you read all of the papers before attending, as we hope to spark lively discussions that will be valuable to all who attend.

We welcome any paper within the broad scope of music analysis. If you wish to offer up your work for discussion, please contact us by emailing students@sma.ac.uk by Tuesday 30th May 2023 with your submission for the writing club. This could be a thesis chapter, conference  paper or journal submission, with a word count of roughly 5,000 words.

We also encourage students who are not submitting their work to attend the session, as it will provide opportunities to provide feedback and hear about colleagues’ work in progress. Please get in touch at students@sma.ac.uk if you would like to attend.
